The movement called Edwardian in Great Britain was dubbed La Belle Époque (beautiful era) in France. Belle Époque jewelry (ca. 1895–1914) is a celebrated period of French luxury defined by airy, platinum-and-diamond garland (guirlande) styles. Emphasizing the "all-white" aesthetic, master jewelers used platinum—which was stronger and more flexible than gold—to craft delicate, lace-like settings accented with millegrain beading and glittering South African diamonds.
